Vellios hungry to succeed

Blues front-man Apostolos Vellios is hoping to continue his impressive development in Saturday´s pre-season friendly against DC United in the American capital.

Vellios won praise from boss David Moyes and skipper Phil Neville for his second half display in Wednesday´s 1-0 defeat to Philadelphia at PPL Park.

The Greek striker spearheaded Everton´s attack in Pennsylvania and is hoping to be involved again in a game that will be shown exclusively live on evertontv.

Everton battled the sweltering American heat against Union but Vellios believes this will serve them well in the lead up to the new Premier League season.

“I felt really good (against Philadelphia), the three days before I really concentrated because it was my first 45 minutes for the team,” Vellios told evertontv.

“We have a few players with injuries and I hoped to play some more minutes.

“The team was a little tired but for me this is normal because we are training well,” he added.

“If you are training well then you will be tired in these games and will be ready for our first game with Tottenham.”

The four-match bundle includes clashes against DC United tomorrow, Birmingham on 30 July, Werder Bremen on 2 August and Villarreal on 5 August.
