Match Report: Norwich U21s 0 Everton U21s 2

Everton recorded another fine win at Carrow road with a 2-0 win over Norwich City.

Alan Stubbs team selection was quite a strong one with trialist Thomas Hitzlsperger starting for the toffees. Aspostolos Vellios and Conor Grant grabbed the important goals to give Everton a win and not without a fight from the hosts.

These two clubs were level on points before tonight´s game at Carrow road with the Canaries having a game in hand on their visitors.

Everton were looking to build on their 5-2 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Finch Farm last Sunday meanwhile Norwich coached by Scott Marshall a former player himself were beaten on their last outing 2-0 at Rush Green the training ground of West Ham United.

Conor McAleney fired Everton first chance wide on 11 minutes then 5 minutes later McAleny set up his Greek colleague for him to repeat McAleney´s effort to waste wide.

Norwich themselves were showing very little threat with the game entering the mid way point of the first half when Browning was well beaten by Murphy who shot but was not to trouble Mucha.

Mucha who announced his International retirement only hours earlier had to drop onto a shot having failed to hold the first attempt from Loza.

Mucha responded well to have to dive at full stretch on the half hour to deny along driven shot from Josh Murphy who was playing in the same line up as his twin brother Jacob.

Vellios had a free kick saved easily by Jed Steer in the Canaries goal who in fact has represented England at U16, U17 and U19 level.

HALF TIME

Everton started the second period brightly, Everton introduced three substitutes with one being Hallam Hope. It was Hope that provided Grant with an opportunity that came off the cross bar. Everton´s pressure paid off when Everton went in front from a corner, Full back Touray delivered to the tall Vellios to give the blues a lead from a few yards out.

Vellios tried his luck not long after with a cheeky chip that Steer took into his grasp.

Norwich then responded with pressure having a couple of decent chances through a Jamar Loza overhead kick, David Fox then fancied a shot from range that wasn´t a concern for Mucha.

Norwich were increasing the tempo and putting Everton´s back line under pressure but Alan Stubb´s men were proving to be a stubborn unit.

Mucha proved his worth with 12 minutes remaining to push away a Murphy shot which seemed to come off Shane Duffy as Everton conceded a corner. David Fox came close again for the Canaries before the game was out of their reach as Everton sailed into a 2 goal lead with Hallam Hope providing another goal for the second time in the game for Grant to despatch with a crisp left foot shot from inside the box.

Norwich had time for one more effort from former Glasgow Rangers player Ewan McNeill but his shot was directed into the side netting.

Next up for the U21´s is the visit of Arsenal on 22nd October
