First-half goals from Ryan Giggs and Robin van Persie condemn Everton to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Ryan Giggs grabbed the opening goal on 13 minutes, when Van Persie escaped Heitinga in the area to set up Giggs, who calmly slotted past Howard from seven yards.
Everton nearly drew level on 28 minutes but David De Gea did well to keep out a long-range strike from Leon Osman, while Victor Anichebe was thwarted by a last-ditch Rafael challenge in the six-yard box.
But despite the good period of pressure Everton, Van Persie struck just before the break to deal them an ultimately fatal blow.
The Dutchman sprung the offside trap, rounded Howard and trickled a right-foot shot towards goal which was helped over the line by the sliding Heitinga.
