"The Season Starts Now"

Roberto Martinez has heralded the close of the transfer window, heralding it´s closure as signalling a “fresh start”

In August, Martinez branded the transfer window a “footballing circus”, with the constant media reports linking Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines causing inevitable disruption.

Although Everton did eventually sell midfielder Marouane Fellaini to Manchester United ahead of the deadline, Martinez was able to keep full-back Leighton Baines and strengthen his squad with Gareth Barry, Romelu Lukaku and James McCarthy all coming in on the final day of the window.

And speaking in his press conference ahead of his side´s home clash with Chelsea on Saturday, he is looking ahead with plenty of reason for optimism.

Martinez: “When the window closed there was a different environment around the football club

We feel it is a fresh start. For us, there is a feeling that the season starts now, we have done many good things in the previous games but now we need to pick up points and get our season started.”
