Abel Xavier was never called the best player in the world, but in January 2002 Everton supporters called him a lot worse.

After arriving from PSV Eindhoven in 1999 the full back played 49 times for the Toffees until a shock move saw him don the red shirt of Merseyside.

Not the most memorable player, this case was more a matter of principle. Like Nick Barmby before him, karma turned out to be painted royal blue. After just 21 appearances Xavier was shipped out on loan to Galatasaray.

And that hair… Once a blue, never again.
