Hello folks, I’ve been out and about again, pestering unsuspecting blues into talking to me about football, and Everton in particular. This week, I bothered, err, spoke to, a lovely chap called Keith Furlong….
So Keith, any general thoughts on this season so far?
Well, as much as I’m pleased we got Romelu Lukaku, I reckon Samuel Eto’o has been the signing of the summer. He’s an excellent professional, he’s an excellent player, knows where the goal is and was free. And he doesn’t set fireworks off in bathrooms!
Any standout thoughts on the rest of the squad?
Well, I don’t think there’s a bad egg among them, they all seem like a nice bunch. Steven Naismith is great, I think they’re all ace.
Any room for improvement in the team?
I’m not too sure on Christian Atsu – he’s by no means a bad player, but I’d like to see him a bit more before commenting further on him. Aiden McGeady is in my opinion an excellent player, and I think he’ll improve in the manner Naismith did and win us over in the long run. Leon Osman! As much as I love the lad and he’s been good over the years, I’m not sure he’s a regular starter anymore. I’d certainly keep him on the bench and start him when necessary, if needed, but I don’t think he’s the first name on the team sheet anymore. Having said that, I think a lot of people, but by no means the majority, give him stick that’s way over the top.
Has any player surprised you this year?
Tony Hibbert. When he’s played this season, he’s not put a foot wrong. Still waiting though……
Thanks Keith, one final question, who will you be voting for in the FBA’s?
Grand Old Team of course!
It was great to talk to Keith, and don’t forget to follow him by voting for us in the FBA awards – for more information see the Everton forum area of this site
