Everton will face Barnsley away in the second round of the Capital One Cup.
The tie will be played the week commencing 24 August.
The draw means John Stones will be facing his old team and 18-year-old defender Mason Holgate, who signed from Barnsley on Thursday, will be heading back to Oakwell again.
