Gerard Deulofeu – Everton’s Spanish Magician

Fresh from his hat-trick against Georgia U21 I thought i’d give us Evertonians something to keep us happy through the horrendously boring international break. Check this free kick out;

This young Spanish starlet who stumbled upon us from nowhere is suddenly becoming one our marquee players at Everton. With his trickery and direct approach he offers something that a lot of our team are criticised for, excitement.

Okay so I love Martinez as much as any Everton fan, however the lack of excitement does come into question on occasion (especially with the persistence of not playing 2 up front at home). The tick tack toe style of football is beautiful in theory but can leave a lot to be desired in practice. However when Deulofeu gets the ball, Goodison actually wakes up, the best thing is he knows this as well. He told the Guardian last month “When family and friends go to Everton they tell me that there’s a moment when I get the ball and fans get to their feet in anticipation,”

When Deulofeu gets the ball, Goodison actually wakes up.

This oozing confidence reminds me of the often unplayable Kevin Miralles last season (until the penalty incident) or the raw loanee Lukaku who would find the net for fun. The young lad is sitting third in the assists table having not featured heavily in the first 5 games of the Premier League season and keeps talking of wanting more telling evertonfc.com after the West Ham game “It was a good assist and I want to get more assists for Rom. Rom is an animal!”.

So what i’m getting at is, this player is a complete hidden gem. Everton have paid £4.2 million for a player once tipped to be a future Ballon d’or winner by former Barcelona team mate Rafinha. Can you comprehend that? Cause I sure can’t. Roberto Martinez has been tracking him since he was 16 and it’s easy to see why after the Sunderland game Roberto said: “He is still a young man but to see him performing the way he did, three games in a week, shows you how far he has come and how settled he looks – and what a special talent we have in our squad.”

Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi will be next on the chopping block for Deulofeu as he aims to terrorize and haunt another left backs dreams with step overs galore. So thats 4-0 Everton obviously.
