Don’t expect Richarlison to slow down anytime soon

Richarlison kicked off life in the royal blue jersey perfectly when he lit up Molineux on Saturday evening, netting both of Everton’s goals on his competitive debut.

So much was made of the Brazilian’s price tag prior to kick-off, the media have their £50 million narrative set in stone and there is no doubt when the day Everton’s new no. 30 has an off day, that figure will be splashed all over the back pages.

Despite the actual price of his transfer from Watford being closer to the £35m mark (potentially rising to £40m with future add ons), nothing will be able change the press’s mind now.

Only Richarlison can keep them quiet, starting with more performances like the one he produced at the weekend.

His first goal showed his instinctive nature, ready to snap up anything that fell to his feet — thankfully that was the ball and it was powered past a helpless Rui Patricio in the Wolves net.

But the second to make it 2-1 was special, reminiscent of the goals Thierry Henry would produce weekly in his prime.

Cenk Tosun laid the ball off to the winger, he cut in from the left hand side and curled it round the ‘keeper in at the far post. A stunning finish that Evertonians will want to see more of over the course of the campaign.

The 21-year-old started last season similarly but fell off dramatically after Marco Silva’s Vicarage Road departure, he netted five goals under Silva’s guidance, but his double against Wolves were his first in 2018.

But he is unlikely to produce a slump like that this time around.

Richarlison came to the Premier League whilst the Brazilian Serie A was still being played, so until this summer, he was running on empty having played nonstop football for well over 12 months.

But with a good rest under his belt, a proper pre-season (half with the Hornets before his move to the Toffees in July) and he is back playing under the manager he produced his best with, so don’t expect him to drop anytime soon.

His attitude is impeccable too, on two occasions now he has been spotted giving his shirt to young fans in the crowd — it is clear this boy knows what it means to play for Everton Football Club.

Despite playing with the weight of the media’s huge transfer tag, he has done what few would expect from someone of his age group during his early days in L4.
