GOT Player of the Month – August 2018

Following a largely abject pre-season, Marcel Brands and Marco Silva oversaw a flurry of late transfer window activity. A number of departures eased the pressure on the wage bill but more importantly, a number of arrivals boosted the thinned out squad to hopefully add some much needed quality.

Just the four games in August to get the season underway and Everton went unbeaten in three Premier League encounters and overcame the first hurdle in the Carabao Cup. Two decent draws away at newly promoted Wolves and Bournemouth sandwiched a Goodison victory over Southampton in the league.

Many Blues fans though felt that the five points gained could and perhaps should have been nine given the team led twice at Molineux and relinquished a two-goal lead at Bournemouth. Both games saw the Blues reduced to ten men with Phil Jagielka and Richarlison drawing straight red cards in the first halves.

All tolled, twenty-two players saw action with four featuring in all four outings – Mason Holgate, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun.

In terms of the individual Man of the Match winners, Richarlison was the runaway winner of the Wolves game vote, while Gylfi Sigurdsson picked up the vote the win over Southampton and narrowly edging the Bournemouth game over Theo Walcott. Another of our new recruits Lucas Digne, claimed the plaudits for the Carabao Cup win over Rotherham, squeezing two-goal Dominic Calvert-Lewin into second place.

The highest single game vote came following the 2-2 draw at Wolves… the lowest being after the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

As with last season, we intend to continue posting match reports, managers quotes and MotM polls as quickly as possible after each game, and we encourage all our forum members and readers to vote.

MotM poll voting will be open until the morning of the next game or for seven days, dependant upon international breaks and our progress in the domestic cup competitions that inevitably will condense the game day diary somewhat.

So now we’re in September, it gives us great pleasure to announce the result for August… cue drumroll…
in third place was Theo Walcott…
in second place was Gylfi Sigurdsson…

and the congratulations go to, with over 36% of the total votes cast, and the GOT Player of the Month for August…

Richarlison.
