The Blues swing into Cup action looking for a double over Soutampton.

And Evertonians will be hoping victory is the springboard to Marco Silva ending the club’s 23 year trophy drought.

Everton ended a run of three games without victory on Saturday as the Toffees dispatched Fulham 3-0 at Goodison thanks to a brace from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Cenk Tosun’s first of the season.

Tuesday’s visitors will have bad memories from their last trip to Goodison just two months ago.

The second game of the Premier League season saw Everton pick up their first victory of the campaign when they beat the Saints 2-1.

Mark Hughes’ side will be out for revenge but the 2016 Carabao Cup finalists aren’t in inspiring form, having won just one league game all season, 2-0 at Crystal Palace.

Since their last win, the Saints have been held to a 2-2 draw by Brighton, battered 3-0 by Liverpool and comfortably bettered by Wolves in a 2-0 loss at the weekend.

The Blues have a good record against Southampton, historians would have to travel back 21 years to find an away win for the Saints at Everton.

This will be the 100^th meeting between the clubs, Everton have come out victorious on 48 occasions, Southampton on 29 with 22 draws.

One to watch 

The man who got Southampton’s goal on their last visit, Danny Ings.

It was his first goal for his new club, and the 26-year-old is the south coast club’s top scorer this term with three.

But the on-loan Liverpool man will be desperate to do his parent club a favour and dump Everton out of the cup.
