Everton v Leicester City

Everton and Duncan Ferguson face a potentially season defining fixture on Wednesday evening when Leicester City come to town.

After two impressive results since taking over as interim manager, Ferguson now faces what could be his toughest scrap yet.

Leicester have been nothing short of spectacular so far this season, they are second in the Premier League after 17 games.

Despite being in the job less than a year, Brendan Rodgers has already made the Foxes a side Everton could only dream of being in their current state.

Leicester have beaten Newcastle, Luton and Burton so far in the Carabao Cup to set up the Goodison clash.

Before Norwich took a point at the King Power Stadium last weekend, the Foxes were on a run of nine straight victories.

Leicester boast the best defence in all four of England’s top divisions, only shipping 11 goals in the league all season.

If Everton get the victory on Wednesday night, they could face off against Aston Villa, Manchester City, Manchester United, Colchester or Oxford United in the semi-final.

One to watch

Jamie Vardy could once again cause Everton’s backline havoc on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old is the league’s top scorer and is a constant threat to any side on his day.

Vardy didn’t perform to his usual high standards when Everton met Leicester at the start of the month, but the former England international only needed one chance to find the back of the net in a game eventually won by the midlands club.

Vardy particularly enjoys coming up against the Toffees, in eight appearances against them he has netted six goals and has picked up three assists.

Team news

Everton are suffering a bit of an injury crisis at the moment.

The Blues will be without Lucas Digne, Morgan Schneiderlin, Theo Walcott, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes.

Fabian Delph is a serious doubt, Djibril Sidibe and Gylfi Sigurdsson are in a race against time to fight off illness.

Man in the middle

Jonathan Moss will take the whistle for this one. In 14 games this season he’s shown 48 yellow cards and two reds.
