Everton Football Club now confirm that Bill Kenwright to remain at the helm

Everton have today confirmed that chairman Bill Kenwright will remain at the football club.

Kenwright’s position at Everton appeared to be untenable, as the club has battled back-to-back relegation scraps with instability rife both on and off the pitch.

Fan-led demonstrations against Kenwright and the board have gathered pace over the past two years and were only put on a brief hiatus as the club fought for Premier League survival towards the end of last season.

Indeed, with the recent resignations of Chief Executive Officer Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Chief Finance and Strategy Officer Grant Ingles and Non-Executive Director Graeme Sharp, it seemed further departures at senior level would follow.

However, an update on the official Everton website confirms that Kenwright will remain as Chairman, with the following statement from Farhad Moshiri: “I wanted Bill to remain as our Chairman during this important period of transition for the Club and I am delighted that he has accepted my request to do so.

Bill’s knowledge and vast experience will be crucial for us as we look to reset, deliver on external investment and position Everton for a successful future.”

Just when it seemed like the club was beginning to make the necessary changes, this statement is a predictable step backwards, at a crucial time for Everton’s future.

Indeed, the on-going pantomime will now continue at the expense of the club’s development in what is an enormous summer for the Blues.

This was a great opportunity to reset and galvanise the club, though the disconnect between Everton and its loyal fanbase will now likely widen.

Both Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright have been complete disasters during their time at Everton, and neither seem capable of resolving the deep-rooted issues at the club.

Everton will not progress with Bill Kenwright as chairman, though it looks like the ‘good times’ are set to continue.
