‘Special’ Everton target Scott McTominay may now be available this summer

Manchester United midfielder and Everton target Scott McTominay could be available this summer if a reasonable offer is made.

Everton have been linked with a move for the ‘special‘ 26-year-old this summer alongside Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.

Indeed, reports in The Athletic last month stated that Goodison Park could be a destination for McTominay after falling out of favour with Erik ten Hag.

However, contradictory to such reports, The Guardian claim that the Scottish international is seen as a valuable member of the United squad by the Dutch coach and would only be allowed to leave should a sizeable bid be tabled.

McTominay started just 16 games in all competitions for Manchester United last season, making 24 Premier League outings in total.

The Scot could prove to be a useful signing for Everton should Sean Dyche choose to pursue the midfielder, though what United would deem a reasonable offer for the 26-year-old remains to be seen.

Italian giants AS Roma have also been linked with an approach for the midfielder, who would reunite with former United coach Jose Mourinho.

McTominay signing would be a boost for Everton next season

McTominay’s industry in midfield combined with his composure and strong range of passing would suit Sean Dyche’s style of play at Everton, and he could be a suitable replacement for Amadou Onana, should the Belgian depart.

Indeed, the 22-year-old midfielder, who only moved to Merseyside last summer in a £33m deal with French side Lille, as been consistently linked with a move away from Goodison Park.

Meanwhile, the report in The Guardian also states that Everton’s January loan target Anthony Elanga will also be made available this summer, for a fee of around £30m.

Elanga was a target for the Blues following Anthony Gordon’s £45m move to Newcastle United last January, though Everton only wanted the Swede on loan.

However, the 21-year-old is now likely to leave Old Trafford on a permanent basis, but whether or not Everton see him as a player worth such a hefty price tag is another matter.
