Everton are closing in on a deal to sign Arnaut Danjuma on loan, having had a bid accepted.
Evertonians won’t be counting their chickens just yet, as the news comes five months after he dramatically abandoned a move to Goodison Park at the last second to join Tottenham instead.
The Netherlands international had been due to sign for the Blues during the January transfer window. However, after passing a medical and undergoing media duties at Everton, Tottenham Hotspur hijacked the deal, and following a swift round of talks, the winger agreed to move to the capital on loan from Villarreal.
Villarreal had agreed a £27m buy option with Spurs, but they decided against triggering the option they had, meaning Danjuma returned to the Estadi de la Ceramica following the expiry of his loan spell last month.
The Dutchman is said to have appreciated that Everton accepted his decision in January and they parted on good terms which made it easy to re-open talks with Danjuma’s representatives in the hope of signing the 26-year-old who hit 22 goals in 51 games for Villarreal following a £21.3million move to the Spanish club from Bournemouth two years ago.
