Everton may still be interested in Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho this summer as Sean Dyche explores what attacking options are available to him.
The 26-year-old striker scored eight goals for the Foxes in all competitions last season, and while Everton have a ‘mild interest’ for the Nigeria international, ‘no approach has yet been made’.
That is according to BBC Sport, who report that Everton boss Sean Dyche has confirmed that the Toffees have missed out on some key targets this summer.
Dyche said: “It’s a tough market. There is only so much that we can do, so we are working very hard – I can assure everyone of that – to construct deals that can work.
There is no exact moment until it’s over the line. There have been situations where we have been into where we thought we were going to get it over the line and we don’t – that’s the way it goes.
A lack of goals is always a concern because you need to score to win games.”
Everton missed out on Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres earlier this summer as the Swede picked Sporting CP, over Everton, while Almeria forward Eli Bilal Toure chose Atalanta over Goodison Park.
The Blues look set to sign Sporting attacker Youssef Chermiti, with Fabrizio Romano tweeting that a deal for the 19-year-old is in place, but Everton will also need further reinforcements before the window shuts.
Kelechi Iheanacho was once considered a very promising talent at Manchester City and while things haven’t worked out for him at Leicester, he could be a decent signing for Everton this summer.
However, with only a ‘mild interest’ at this stage, it remains unclear whether or not Sean Dyche will pursue the 26-year-old.
