Everton are now reportedly interested in West Ham United forward Michail Antonio this summer.
The 33-year-old had been tipped for a move to the Saudi Pro League, however that deal now appears to have collapsed, alerting Everton to his availability.
That is according to Football Transfers, who report that Antonio was set to join Al Ettifaq, however they moved for one-time Everton target Moussa Dembele instead.
With a year remaining on his current deal at West Ham, David Moyes’ side are reportedly open to offers, with Nottingham Forest and Wolves also interested in Antonio’s signature.
However, any deal for the Jamaican international will likely hinge on a new striker arriving at the London Stadium before the end of the transfer window.
Everton have been in the hunt for a new centre-forward all summer and have already missed out on key targets Viktor Gyokeres and El Bilal Toure.
Indeed, though the Toffees are unbeaten during pre-season, there is a distinct lack of cutting edge in front of goal and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is yet to return from injury.
Last season’s top goalscorer Dwight McNeil suffered a knock during last Saturday’s 1-0 win at Stoke City, further emphasizing the need to recruit before the season starts.
The lack of strength in depth within Everton’s squad is worrying to say the least and Sean Dyche is yet to spend any money as the club’s manager, with Ashley Young arriving as a free agent, and Arnaut Danjuma joining on loan from Villarreal.
Antonio managed five goals and three assists in 33 Premier League games for the Hammers last season but given that he has just one year left on his current contract, he would likely be available for a reasonable price.
He may not be a long-term answer, but as a short-term option, Sean Dyche could probably get a tune out of him.
