Everton now set to loan out ‘outstanding’ Tom Cannon this summer

Preston North End are now closing in on a loan deal for 20-year-old Everton forward Tom Cannon.

The ‘outstanding’ striker has been the subject of transfer speculation throughout the summer, with the likes of Birmingham City, Stoke City and Sunderland all linked.

However, the youngster now looks set to return to Deepdale for his second spell with the Lancashire club as he continues his development.

That is according to Football League World, who report that the transfer saga could be about to come to an end.

Tom Cannon spent the second half of last season on loan at Deepdale and impressed during his spell, scoring eight goals and contributing one assist in 20 games.

Another season out on loan at a Championship side could be ideal for the young player’s development, who has got bags of potential.

Contracted at Goodison Park until 2025, should Cannon return to Everton ready for Premier League football, the Blues would welcome back a player who has gained invaluable experience.

Alternatively, the young forward could potentially be sold at a later date, similar to Ellis Simms£3.5m move to Coventry City earlier this summer.

Tom Cannon loan is best outcome for both player and Everton

Indeed, a loan deal with Preston North End seems like an ideal move for all parties, and hopefully Cannon will go on to fulfil his obvious potential at the Toffees.

Meanwhile, Everton need to strengthen their attacking options ahead of this season, as a deal for Sporting CP star Youssef Chermiti gathers pace.

Kamaldeen Sulemana could be seen as an alternative to Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto, though the 21-year-old Southampton forward would likely join on loan rather than on a permanent deal.

With a little over a week to go until Everton welcome Fulham to Goodison Park for the opening game of the 2023/24 Premier League season, there is now real urgency to add to Sean Dyche’s squad.
