Report: Club captain says ‘fantastic’ Joel Piroe will only leave for ‘perfect’ deal, he’s been linked with Everton

Swansea City captain Matt Grimes has now said that forward Joel Piroe will only leave the Swansea.com Stadium under the right circumstances.

The ‘fantastic’ Piroe has been linked with a move to Goodison Park this summer as Sean Dyche looks to reinforce his attacking options.

However, Swans captain Matt Grimes has said that any deal must be ‘perfect’ for both the player and the selling club.

Speaking with BBC Sport, Grimes said: “He’s (Piroe) such a good player, such a good lad, I actually feel a bit sorry for him with the amount of speculation that surrounds him all the time. It’s warranted because he scores so many goals.

If someone comes in and takes him from us, it has to be the perfect deal for him and the club, similar to the way Flynn [Downes] left, there was no animosity at all.

He’s a fantastic footballer and a great guy and if he’s here absolutely brilliant and if someone comes in, then that’s footy”

Everton should focus their attention on Joel Piroe after Wilfried Gnonto snub

24-year-old Piroe scored an impressive 19 goals in 43 Championship games for Swansea City last season, also contributing two assists.

Indeed, with 41 league goals in 88 games during his time in South Wales, Piroe is deadly in front of goal and could be an excellent signing for Sean Dyche’s side.

With just one year left on his current contract at Swansea, now could be an opportune time to bid for the Dutch forward, though Leicester City and Nottingham Forest have also been linked with the 24-year-old.

Joel Piroe was reportedly offered to Everton in a swap deal for Ellis Simms, who eventually signed for Coventry in a £3.5m deal earlier this summer.

Everton have to recruit at least one centre-forward ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season, which starts in little over a week, and Joel Piroe should be a top target for Sean Dyche’s side.
