Sean Dyche is looking to bolster a thin midfield with FC Midtjylland youngster Emilano Martinez, according to sources in Denmark.
Whilst all eyes have been on the final third, and with attacking reinforcements still a priority, most Evertonians would agree that central midfield is lacking in steel and bite. According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Martinez is the subject of £9m bid from Goodison Park.
Having made the step up to senior football 2 years ago, Martinez impressed in his 25 Superliga, appearances last season. A pass completion rate of 85%, as well as 2.5 tackles per game and succeeding in 70% of his attempted dribbles was also enough to earn him 2 caps as a full international.
Everton, however, are not the only club interested. West Ham view him as a ready-made replacement for Declan Rice. Both clubs interest have been piqued by a player ranking in the top 1% of midfielders in Europe for tackles and blocks per 90 minutes, according to Fbref.
Martinez’ all-action style and imposing physicality would make him a perfect fit for Evertonians. 33 year old Idrissa Gana Gueye moving into the last year of his contract, and is a similar type of player. Moving to tie down a young replacement for a low fee would seem to be excellent business and would shape the heart of the team for years to come.
That a deal could be completed even within the club’s current financial constraints would be a massive boost. It remains to be seen if a player Sean Dyche has monitored “For months” is willing to move to Goodison, but his capture would be a major coup for the Blues.
