Sporting CP teenager Youseff Chermiti is now set to have a medical at Everton ahead of being the club’s third signing of the summer.
The 19-year-old has been continuously linked with a move to Goodison Park in recent weeks, and the deal now appears to have taken one step closer to completion.
Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has reported via his Twitter that documents are ‘being prepared’ and the forward is ‘on his way’ for a medical.
Romano tweeted: “Chermiti, on his way for medical tests as new Everton player after agreement on all details for personal terms.
Documents not signed yet but being prepared now on both player and clubs side with Sporting.
Exclusive story confirmed.”
The arrival of a centre-forward cannot come soon enough for Sean Dyche, who confirmed after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Sporting CP that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is unlikely to face Fulham on Saturday.
Everton now have less than a week until the 2023/24 Premier League season starts and are yet to recruit the centre-forward that has been desperately needed for some time.
At 6ft 4ins, Chermiti is a big lad, and will arrive from a club renowned for producing top tier talent such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Figo and Rafael Leao.
With a reported fee of £12m upfront, the Portugal U-19 star, who scored three goals in 16 games during last season’s breakthrough campaign, could be an exciting arrival on Merseyside.
Indeed, Everton’s recruitment has been woeful in recent years, and the arrival of a top young talent could suggest a change in strategy at Goodison Park.
The Toffees have already missed out on the likes of El Bilal Toure and Viktor Gyokeres, who was a handful during Saturday’s win over Sporting, so let’s hope this one gets over the line soon.
