Report: Manchester United discuss move for Everton’s Amadou Onana this summer

Manchester United have now discussed the possibility of making an approach for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this summer.

The Belgian international arrived at Goodison Park in a £33m deal with French side Lille and was a standout performer in his debut Premier League campaign.

Indeed, the 22-year-old has previously been linked with a move to old Trafford, with both Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly interested last January.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Erik ten Hag’s side have ‘held discussions’ about the Everton star, though those talks have ‘not progressed’.

Amadou Onana was a dominating presence during Everton’s 1-0 pre-season win over Sporting CP last Saturday and was unlucky not to double the Toffees’ lead, hitting the post in the second half.

Indeed, the Belgian was a match-winner during last month’s 1-0 win at Stoke City, scoring at the death in front of the travelling Evertonians at the Bet365 Stadium.

Amadou Onana can refine his raw ability at Everton, but could be the next United bound talent

The prodigious midfielder has the potential to be immense and big things are expected at Goodison Park this season.

Sean Dyche could build a team around the former Lille man, with Onana’s box to box energy and bursts of pace offering the Blues a potentially top-class outlet in the heart of midfield.

United have taken a number of high-profile players from Everton over the years, most recently Onana’s fellow countryman Romelu Lukaku who made the £75m move to Old Trafford in 2017.

If the Blues are to progress, the culture of selling our best and brightest must stop, however if United do make a bid, Everton’s financial situation may mean a sale is inevitable.

However, the report also states that Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat is United’s top midfield target, so Onana appears to be a back-up option should they fail to land the Moroccan international.
