Everton prospect set for Championship loan move. £8m permanent deal “still an option”.

Everton youngster Tom Cannon has rejected a loan move to Sunderland to rejoin Preston North End for the season. The 20 year old impressed on loan with the Lilywhites last season and will look to add to his tally of 8 goals.

In Demand

According to ChronicleLive, interest in Cannon has been high. Sunderland, Leeds and Stoke were all in contact with Everton over the youngster’s services this week. Sunderland manager Tony Mawbray was said to be extremely keen to bolster his striking options with Cannon following an injury to Ross Stewart.

Cannon has been training with first team all summer and was an unused substitute against Fulham on Saturday. Clearly, however, the Goodison hierarchy feel a loan is in the best interests of his further development.

Permanent deal?

There are reports however that Sampdoria, relegated last season from Serie A, are looking to sign Cannon on a permanent deal. The Bluecerati are reported by Alan Nixon to be willing to spend as much as £8m on the striker. It is believed that both Stoke and Leeds are also considering permanent deals.

That Everton are willing to allow a young forward to move away from the club whilst suffering in front of goal will raise some eyebrows. The hope must be that this means further incomings are imminent with all reports indicating a decision on Cannon’s future will be made this week. Cannon was also involved in the Under 21 fixture against Liverpool on Monday and the behind-closed-doors friendly against Manchester United yesterday.
