‘Another attempt’: Journalist says that European club have not given up on signing Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton

Dutch side PSV Eindhoven have not given up on signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

The Eredivisie giants are said to have made ‘another attempt’ to sign the 21-year-old, who has yet to play a competitive game under Sean Dyche.

Jarrad Branthwaite spent last season on loan at PSV and impressed during his time in the Netherlands, lifting the KNCB Cup during his 12-month spell.

Indeed, such was his impact, the Dutch side attempted to sign the England U-21 star on a permanent basis, but their approach was rejected by the Blues.

However, according to journalist Rik Elfrink, ‘another attempt’ has been made to lure the defender away from Goodison Park.

Taking to Twitter, Elfrink said: “PSV has not yet forgotten about a reunion with ‘old acquaintance’ Jarrad Branthwaite of #Everton. The club has made another attempt to snatch him from England.”

Branthwaite needs first-team or Everton risk losing a promising talent

The centre-back has been the subject of transfer speculation this summer with Manchester United reportedly interested in the youngster.

In an attempt to rebuff interest in the 21-year-old, the Toffees are reportedly looking to offer Branthwaite renewed terms in order to tie him down at Goodison Park.

However, at such a crucial point in the player’s development, Branthwaite will be eager to get minutes on the pitch, but has so far been omitted from Sean Dyche’s starting XI this season.

Indeed, £30m defender Michael Keane has started alongside vice-captain James Tarkowski in central defence, conceding five goals in the opening two fixtures of the campaign.

Dyche could build his backline around the talented youngster but risks losing him if minutes on the pitch prove to be limited.

The Everton boss is always likely to select experience over youth, but the Toffees were a defensive shambles at Villa Park last week.

Branthwaite must start against Wolves at the weekend in what already feels like a vital game at Goodison Park.
