Everton have begun talks with Italian side Udinese over a deal for centre-forward Beto.
Indeed, the Blues have ‘opened discussions’ over the 6ft 4in striker, though a deal is not expected to be completed this week.
As per Alan Myers, who reported the news via his Twitter account, Everton are interested in signing the 25-year-old Portuguese attacker.
Myers said: “Everton have opened discussions with Udinese striker Beto, however any deal is unlikely to be completed this week.”
Beto scored 10 Serie A goals in 33 games for Udinese last season, contributing one assist, earning him a goal per game ratio just shy of one every three outings.
The 25-year-old would have comfortably been Everton’s top scorer had he played for the Blues last season, with no player at Goodison Park reaching double figures.
Former Everton midfielder Don Hutchison recently highlighted via his Twitter account that the Udinese forward could be a good signing for Sean Dyche if he is ‘given the right service’.
Hutchison said: “Everton fans looking for a Centre Forward take a look at Beto at Udinese (been linked before) he showed last night v Juve. When given the right service he can be very useful (not prolific) but a decent target man that would bring midfielders higher up the pitch.”
The Toffees are reportedly in talks with Southampton over a deal for Scottish international Che Adams and the arrival of two target men before deadline day would alleviate some of the pressure on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s shoulders.
However, with a deal for Beto ‘unlikely’ to be finalised this week, and the Che Adams saga dragging on, Sean Dyche will have to go into his third Premier League game of the season without a new centre-forward.
Everton are yet to score a goal this season and have conceded five in the opening two games, though the club appears to be no closer to securing the much-needed reinforcements than we were this time last week.
