Everton midfielder Andre Gomes could make a permanent move away from Goodison Park before the end of this week.
The £22m player failed to secure a move away during the UK transfer window, however the Turkish window remains open until Friday, with two Super Lig teams reportedly interested.
Gomes spent last season on loan at LOSC Lille and appeared set for a permanent return to France this summer after a fruitful spell in Ligue 1, scoring three goals and contributing two assists in 26 games.
However, a permanent move across the Channel never materialised, and while the 30-year-old does not appear to be in Sean Dyche’s plans, the Toffees will no doubt be keen to shift one of the club’s highest earners this summer.
Indeed, the Turkish Super Lig could provide the Portuguese international with an opportunity to start afresh after a disappointing few years on Merseyside.
Turkish outlet AS Marca report that Trabzonspor are interested in the former Barcelona player’s signature, while journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu claims that Fenerbahçe also see the Everton midfielder as a potential target.
Gomes is unlikely to feature for Everton and a move away suits both player and club
With just one year remaining on Gomes’ deal with the Blues, it would be an opportune time to recoup whatever we can from our investment in the 30-year-old, rather than see him leave for free next summer.
Indeed, Gomes’ career at Goodison Park has been over for a couple of years and the 30-year-old has never rediscovered the form prior to his injury in November 2019.
The Portuguese international had the makings of a superb signing after an impressive loan spell during the 2018/19 campaign, but long-term he is a player who has contributed very little despite his price tag.
Gomes’ most recent Premier League appearance for Everton was the memorable 3-2 win over Crystal Palace in May 2022, and should he move before Friday’s deadline, it will be his last.
