‘Of course’: Amadou Onana says there are positives to take from Arsenal defeat

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana insists that there are positives to take from last weekend’s performance despite the 1-0 defeat.

Everton lost their fourth Premier League game out of the opening five fixtures of the season, having failed to keep a single clean sheet so far this campaign.

Indeed, it was also the fourth game that the Toffees have not found the back of the net, with just two Premier League goals scored so far this year.

Sean Dyche’s side appear to lack anything resembling an identity at the moment and barely troubled Arsenal last Sunday, seemingly accepting a 1-0 defeat.

However, £33m midfielder Amadou Onana insists that there remain positives to take from the performance.

Speaking with the official Everton website, Onana said: “Yes, of course there are positives to take. We put a lot of intensity into the game, but I think everyone is disappointed because losing games doesn’t feel great.

It was disappointing afternoon, of course, because I think we did quite a lot of things in the right way.”

He continued: “We stick together as a team, and we will build from this performance and take on the next one.”

Everton fans might disagree with Amadou Onana after fourth PL defeat in five games

Everton currently sit 18th in the Premier League table with a solitary point on the board as a third consecutive fight for survival looks inevitable.

The Belgian international was anonymous and ineffective in midfield, though in truth few Everton players stood out in what was a characterless display.

One positive from the game was Jarrad Branthwaite’s continued development, as the young centre-back put in another impressive display for the Toffees.

Everton’s form on the pitch and financial situation off it has fans suffering anxiety nightmares about what our immediate and long-term future could hold, and with a tough game at Brentford at the weekend, there are precious few positives at Goodison Park at the minute.
