Former Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has considered whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto can form a strike partnership at the Toffees.
The ex-player turned pundit questioned if the two could play in the same team after Saturday’s 3-1 win at Brentford stating, ‘we’ll see’.
The pair are yet to feature as a partnership for Sean Dyche’s side since Beto’s arrival for £26m from Serie A side Udinese in the summer.
Indeed, Howard suggests that Beto is ‘good in the air’ but believes that DCL is ‘more clinical’ in terms of his finishing ability.
Speaking on NBC Sports following Everton’s win over Brentford at the weekend, the former USA international offered his thoughts on the club’s attacking options, with a focus on Portuguese forward Beto.
Howard said: “It’s the clinical nature or lack of awareness in front of goal. He (Beto) gets himself in good positions.
He’s good in the air in terms of clicking it on. Calvert-Lewin is a good runner, he is more clinical. Can they play together? We’ll see.”
Beto put in yet another impressive individual display at the weekend and shows a great deal of promise as a target man for Sean Dyche’s side.
Indeed, with Abdoulaye Doucoure a willing runner in behind throughout, the Blues were a constant threat to Brentford’s defence and Beto showed what he is capable of when provided with support from the midfield.
Dyche is yet to play two upfront for Everton, but with home fixtures against Luton Town and Bournemouth coming up, it could be an opportunity for the pair to play in an attacking duo.
If Everton create chances for both Beto and DCL, the pair will score goals, and it would be interesting to see them line up in the same starting XI.
Perhaps we will see a change in formation this weekend against Luton Town.
