Everton boss Sean Dyche has praised forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin following his performance against Aston Villa last night.
Dyche states that the £1.5m striker ‘looks sharp’ and will continue on his path to full match-fitness the more minutes he gets under his belt.
Speaking with BBC Sport after last night’s 2-1 win at Villa Park, Sean Dyche said: “I am very pleased for him (DCL) – he has been through a lot. It is not easy when you have been through that many ups and downs in the last couple of seasons.
He got an unfortunate injury here last time, but his all-round performance was good today and tactically he was good too.
He looks sharp and will get sharper, he will get more match fit. We still have to be a little careful with him, that is why he came off to get the fitness without breaking them.”
Hopefully Calvert-Lewin has overcome injury curse
Everton were dominant against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa with a performance in complete contrast to last month’s 4-0 defeat at the same stadium.
James Garner opened the scoring early on with a left-footed rocket after the £15m midfielder was found with a clever pass from Amadou Onana.
The Blues could have been two-up by half-time, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin capitalised on a defensive error early after the break to double Everton’s lead.
Indeed, the scoreline barely reflected Everton’s dominance in parts, and a late Boubacar Kamara goal for the hosts did little more than create a tense finale, with the Toffees deserved winners.
With two goals from his past two games, Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks like he is putting to bed what has been a troublesome couple of years with injury.
Everton have been unrecognisable in their last two performances, in the sense that we have won convincingly – long may it continue.
