Report: Everton linked with January move for Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips in January.

The 27-year-old made the move to City from Leeds United in the summer of 2022 in a £42m deal, though the England international has struggled to adapt under Pep Guardiola.

Indeed, Phillips has played just 13 Premier League games since his move last year and while City have an embarrassing wealth of riches in midfield, the former Leeds player has seen minutes on the pitch limited.

A loan move away from The Etihad as early as January has been suggested as the player looks to restart his stalled career ahead of next summer’s European Championships, and Goodison Park could be a potential destination.

As per Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, Philips could be an ‘attractive option’ for Sean Dyche during the January transfer window.

The report said: “Although Everton are not facing problems in their midfield at the moment, the possible sale of Amadou Onana could change the situation.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hinted at Kalvin Phillips’ departure in January. This makes him an attractive option to reinforce Everton’s midfield.”

Though Kalvin Phillips to Everton would be phenomenal signing, it’s highly unlikely

Fichajes also states that Everton could reignite their interest in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, who also has one eye on the international stage and could leave Old Trafford to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

The report states: “Manchester United centre-back, Harry Maguire, is a player who would fit well in Everton’s current situation, which needs to strengthen its defence.

Although he is not in Erik ten Hag’s plans at United, Gareth Southgate has warned Maguire that he needs to play regularly to be considered for Euro 2024. A move to Everton could provide the opportunity he needs, at least temporarily.”

However, the same news outlet claims that Everton could make a January loan move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as Jordan Pickford will be ‘sacrificed’ to fund other incomings.

Perhaps take this one with a large pinch of salt.
