‘About time’: James Garner hails ‘important’ Goodison Park win vs Bournemouth

Everton midfielder James Garner has hailed the significance of securing a first three points of the season at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s side overcame visitors Bournemouth with a convincing 3-0 victory and the £15m Garner has stated it is ‘about time’ some luck went in the Toffees’ favour.

Indeed, it was an ‘important’ victory as Garner states, especially after last week’s 2-1 defeat to Luton Town and as we head into an international break, doing so on a positive note is a boost for the club.

It is a sentiment echoed by Garner, who spoke with the Liverpool Echo after the game and expressed his satisfaction in converting chances into goals.

The 22-year-old said: “We’ve been quite unfortunate this year, especially with our home form, where we should have won more games. Today was massive for us going forward. To finally get the win and score some goals was important.

There was no panic at all because we’ve been playing very well at home. If you watched those games, we created so many chances and so many big chances.

Hopefully today is when that changed. Personally, nobody likes losing, but there were positives in there. It was about time luck went our way.”

If Garner is given a chance in preferred role in centre mid, he can shine for Everton

James Garner himself got on the scoresheet, scoring his first Premier League goal, just weeks after his debut strike for the Blues in a 2-1 League Cup win over Aston Villa.

Taking advantage of some negligent defending from the visitors, Garner picked the ball up deep in the opposition’s half and finished past a static Neto in goal.

The England U-21 star has blossomed in recent weeks and his performance against Bournemouth on Saturday was yet another milestone in his development at Goodison Park.

Indeed, perhaps a victim of his own versatility, the former Manchester United player has fulfilled various roles during his time at Everton, including right-back and right-wing.

However, it is clear that his future lies in the middle of the park, and if he continues his development at pace, Everton will have a very classy central midfielder.
