Report: Everton interested in 17-year-old record-breaker Can Uzun

Everton are reportedly interested in signing FC Nuremberg midfielder Can Uzun.

The 17-year-old scored 15 goals in as many games for FC Nuremberg’s U-19’s last season and has since been called up to the senior squad.

Indeed, Uzun’s development has continued rapidly since his progression from the academy and has scored seven senior goals in 10 games so far this season.

At 17 years 268 days old, the teenager recently made history by becoming FC Nuremberg’s youngest ever goalscorer when he scored his first and second senior goals for the club in a 2-2 draw with Hannover back in August.

Ozun then scored a hattrick and contributed a further two assists in a 9-1 DFB-Pokal win at FC Oberneuland just six days later.

After such an impressive start to his fledgling career, the attacking midfielder has caught the attention of a number of European sides, Everton amongst them.

Uzun an exciting prospect for Everton, but they must move fast with interest from European clubs

As per reports in German outlet BILD, the Toffees have initiated contact with FC Nuremberg over a potential deal for the prodigious talent.

However, a formal approach is yet to be made and the Blues will have competition for the youngster’s signature, with Portuguese giants Benfica also weighing up a move.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has also reported via his Twitter that Everton are among those interested and revealed that a club has already made an ‘official offer’ for the young attacker.

Plettenberg tweeted: “Can Uzun: Everton and Benfica have enquired about the 17-year-old top talent from FC Nuremberg.

There’s also an interest from Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas. One club has already submitted an official offer.”

Should Uzun continue his rapid ascent, he will no doubt continue to attract the attention of countless European sides and should Everton hold genuine interest, they may need to move fast.

With a potential high ceiling for the 17-year-old’s development, Uzun represents the exact type of player Toffees’ manager Sean Dyche should be looking at in forthcoming windows.
