Report: Everton believe Amadou Onana can become better than £115m record breaker

Everton believe that midfielder Amadou Onana can become a more accomplished player than Chelsea star Moises Caicedo.

The 22-year-old Belgian international moved to Goodison Park in a £33m move from Lille in 2022 and is considered one of the brightest sparks at the club.

Indeed, as per reports in the Liverpool Echo, officials at the Blues are hopeful that Onana can become better than Chelsea’s record-breaking midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Caicedo moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer from Brighton & Hove Albion in a £115m deal, breaking the British transfer record for the highest fee.

The Ecuadorian international has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League in recent seasons, and at just 21-years-old has plenty of developing yet to do.

Onana still has a lot of learning at Everton, but he can exceed expectations

However, those behind the scenes at Finch Farm believe Onana has even greater potential than Chelsea’s midfield metronome.

The Liverpool Echo revealed: “Everton believe he can become as good as – or even better – than Moises Caicedo, who went from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea for a British record £115million fee in August but this intelligent polyglot who speaks five languages also needs to let his football do the talking.”

There is no doubt Onana has bags of potential and it is easy to forget how limited his experience is at times, given his age and the fact that he has only played Premier League football for a little over 12 months.

Indeed, it will be another big year for the midfielder, who could have been playing alongside Moises Caicedo at Everton according to The Athletic, who last week reported that the Blues looked at the Ecuadorian prior to his £4.5m move to Brighton in 2021.

Meanwhile, Amadou Onana was sent off in Belgium’s 3-2 win over Austria on Friday evening, meaning he is suspended for tonight’s game against Sweden, which is good news for the Blues ahead of a big game at the weekend.
