‘Of course’: Dominic Calvert-Lewin speaks of Everton ambition ahead of Burnley game

Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin has spoken of his ambition of winning a trophy with the Toffees, with tomorrow’s visit of Burnley presenting itself as an opportunity to progress in the League Cup.

The Blues are in the midst of the longest trophy drought in the club’s history, a burden that increases in significance with each passing year.

However, DCL insists that ending the barren period has been a desire of his since he ‘joined the club’ and spoke with confidence ahead of tomorrow night’s fixture at Goodison Park.

Speaking with the Liverpool Echo, Calvert-Lewin was asked about his ambition of winning a trophy with Everton, responding: “Of course, and it has been since I joined the club. We’re all aware of what we want to achieve.

Wednesday is an opportunity to continue on that journey. I enjoy playing in the Carabao. I’ve got a good record there, so no doubt I’ll hit the onion.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now hopefully back to his best

The 26-year-old scored the winning goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win at West Ham United, a further indicator of his recovery from the injury woes of recent seasons.

Indeed, the England international looks to be back to his best and has praised manager Sean Dyche for ‘taking the pressure’ off him.

“I’ve got to give him (Dyche) credit for being patient and taking pressure off my shoulders because previously it killed me.”

He continued: “The manager came in and said, ‘This will stop’ and he has allowed me to take time to get in this position. I guess we’re all reaping the rewards now.”

The forward’s strike on Sunday afternoon took him to 50 Premier League goals in an Everton shirt, just six behind Tim Cahill and 10 behind Duncan Ferguson.

Indeed, Romelu Lukaku is just 18 Premier League goals ahead of Calvert-Lewin, a record that the £1.5m forward could well have matched by now had it not been for his spell on the sidelines in recent years.

Hopefully it won’t be long until the 26-year-old overtakes those ahead of him in the goalscoring pecking order.
