Sean Dyche expressed his satisfaction with Everton’s “small step” forward after they secured their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw against Leicester on Saturday. However, with the club still winless after five league games, Dyche acknowledged that we urgently need to secure a victory.
“It’s a small step but it’s a step,” the boss told evertontv. “We’ve come into the game in the right manner, made changes to the team which I was pleased with because we’ve got to find the winning formula.
“They are positives but, look, we’ve got to win a game. I’m not naïve, everyone knows that, but there are so many positives today. It really is hard because we’ve got in so many good positions and had chances. The second goal kills the game, I think, with the feel in the whole stadium. I thought it was a very positive performance from us away from home.
“We can’t get on the right side when the ball bobbles in the box. Tarky goes in a cluster, the ball drops and they get a goal out of nothing. I think they’ve had two shots on target today so that’s frustrating.
“You know I’ve talked endlessly about people talking about this way, that way, you‘ve got to play this way, people want to win games, I want to win games. So, yes, better signs today but we didn’t win.
“I said to the players, right, don’t go away thinking, “Oh, well we’ve played well”, almost like a pat on the back. So, we go away knowing it’s a shift forward but now we’ve got to turn that into winning performances because that’s the reality, that’s what we’ve got to do.”
