Jack Harrison: A Goal at Last, But the Hunger Remains

Jack Harrison finally broke his goalscoring duck for the season in Everton’s hard-fought 1-1 draw at Wolves, admitting it was “a relief” to get off the mark. However, the tenacious winger made it clear to Blues fans that his appetite to deliver more goals and assists is far from satisfied as he looks to fire Everton up the table.

Speaking to evertontv after the Molineux stalemate, Harrison reflected on a game of mixed fortunes: “There are a lot of mixed emotions. Getting off to a positive start was good, but conceding so soon after taking the lead was frustrating. In the second half, we didn’t quite play the way we wanted—didn’t keep our shape or create the chances we’d have liked. But we dug in, defended as a unit, and stuck together through a tough spell. A point away from home isn’t to be sniffed at. There are positives to take, plenty to work on too, but I’m just happy we’re keeping this run going. Hopefully, we can carry it into the next one before the break.”

Harrison’s goal—a scrappy but vital finish—might not have been a thing of beauty, but for a player praised by David Moyes for his tireless work-rate ahead of the clash, it was a just reward. “Not quite how I pictured it!” he laughed. “But a goal’s a goal at this stage, and I’ll take it. I’ve been grafting all season, on the pitch and off it, to make this happen, so it’s a relief to finally see it pay off. Now I want to kick on and give a lot more before the season’s out.”

For Evertonians who’ve watched Harrison battle through a barren run in front of goal, his determination will strike a chord. “Getting off the mark is always a boost,” he said. “It’s a nice moment tonight, but I’m not stopping here. I’ll keep working hard, sticking to what I’ve been doing, and hopefully there’s a few more to come.”

The 28-year-old didn’t shy away from the frustration that’s fuelled his season so far. “I’ve always had that hunger for goals and assists,” he admitted. “It’s tough—properly frustrating—when you’re putting in the effort, doing the extras, and it’s just not clicking. So, getting that first one tonight is massive. I’ll keep at it, keep pushing, and hopefully I can give this team—and the fans—more to shout about.”

With Everton showing grit to extend their unbeaten run, Harrison’s breakthrough could be the spark to ignite his season. The Goodison faithful will be hoping he’s right—and that there’s plenty more where that came from.
