Marco Silva ‘We go to Anfield to win’

Marco Silva insists Everton will go to Anfield on Wednesday evening setup to play to take all three points.

“We were there [last season] to win the match and that’s what we will do tomorrow. Our ambition is to go there and get three points” Silva said.

“Let’s go with big motivation and with big courage to embrace the challenge like we did last season.

“Let’s go there to play. We have to enjoy it. It will be a tough game for sure. It is a special game for the city, for our fans.

“It is a fantastic game to play. When you play derbies, it is always a fantastic atmosphere. We have to enjoy the game.

“All the players in the world have to enjoy when you are talking about Everton-Liverpool or Liverpool-Everton matches”.

  1. Honestly, you dont make it so easy for them. Wide open with a midfield not set up to compete and harry aggressively, largely by dint of the players available.

They never even mentioned the Derby…probably out of sympathy. In years gone by we would have lots of banter.

Now it’s as if they feel sorry and that I have enough trouble following Everton.

Not sure which is worse, the banter of the past or the silence of today.

If they win as I expect., there is one of them who will have a grin on him tomorrow but the others will keep quiet.

  10. We are going to Anfield to win he says and then doesn’t change a losing team with a snail pace midfield, a captain that likes to play hide and seek and a solitary holographic striker in front of them.

True. Players need to take more responsibility. Not just at Everton but across the board there seems to be a growing culture of hiding behind managers. Too many are happy to give 70% and collect their mega bucks.

Well, tbh, it’s all the same. There is no guarantee that anything will eventually happen as each match is an independent event, same as a spin in roulette.

In fact, it’s actually deeper than that. Because the gamblers fallacy is based on the mentality of the gambler alone, and the table has no influence in the outcome. But in football, each teams collective mentality comes into play. So not only does a series of losses NOT guarantee an eventual victory, a series of losses can actually lead to additional future losses.

And its not a recent thing either. Look through our entire history. We’ve won at Anfield 8 times since the war, that’s including our 2 most successful periods/teams we’ve had in our history.

Until there is a huge mentality shift by 1 or both teams, you can basically chalk off those potential 6 points every year.
The difference is between a future sequence of events and an individual event. The latter is gambler’s fallacy; probability of any number for one spin is 1/37, regardless of the previously observed sequence. But if you spin the wheel a large number of times, the probability of seeing a given number at least once in that sequence is close to 1.

As for events at Anfield, they aren’t independent and as long as the probability is nonzero (the more arguable bit, especially given some of the refs we’ve had there!) it will happen eventually! Just might not be tonight. :dodgy:

We did create things though. I don’t know why we’ve suddenly got really sniffy about what we class as creating a chance, as if it doesn’t count unless it’s intricate build up play resulting in an open net. We had 3/4 presentable chances to score on top of the one that we took, we really should have made it 2-0 and seen the game out.
what chances were these? I genuinely can’t remember

I remember kean having two attempts when he came on, I don’t think we paid badly at all btw I just would say we played ” really well”

I think we played really well against west ham and in parts against Wolves, that’s it for me this season

  64. Anything more than 3 would further crush morale which is already very low. Amazing this manager is taking us into this game still.

Also it’s not as if (and i’m not denying this would be amazing) that Marco Silva’s presser was just him sitting down and saying “We go to Anfield to win!” then storming out. He was answering a question about what he thought we could get out of the game.
Got to be honest…if silvas presser was him sitting down, asking each reporter by name how they are then standing up and saying…

“We go to Mordor to reclaim our honour”

Or something along those lines…it would be ace 😉

Plus the RS have been less than convincing themselves lately so there is good reson to think we might get sommat there tonight.

I woke up this morning at circa 6 a.m.and was wide awake, as I always do on derby day.

There is no point anyone moping about all day long dreading this game.

    I am loving it 🙂

    Embrace the possibilities.

The way I am looking at it, this is the perfect opportunity to kick start our season and exorcise the ghost of Pickfordgate, the geme which done for the early Silva era optimism from a year ago.

And I shall maintain this mindset unless events at The Pit unfold differently.

Gone with the right mentality, if we sit back we’ll get battered. Need to get in their face early on like we did at Anfield and even Goodison last season – they were scared at Goodison and couldn’t put a string of passes together. I’m going for it 0-0 at half time. Second half richarlison runs from his own half cuts inside the box laying robertson on his backside, and curls it into the top corner.
