I found it shocking that the ref was laughing and joking with Haaland. The ref was clearly star struck by Haaland, how does that make for fair decisions?
Exactly that.

the third goal Foden did not leave the pitch after receiving treatment and it was let go, not one of our players complain, guarantee if that’s them over the park they complain and the free kick is retaken.

Newcastle just spent £250 million in a year like.
Which is over 2 seasons. Less than either Villa or Everton spent on players over 2 seasons not so long ago and neither our clubs got top 4. The reason Toon are where there are is because they have a good coach and the club is managed well. Obviously, and as I said in my previous post, you do need money. But 250m is not unheard of spend in the PL Forest spent 160m last summer. Fulham spent 120m a few season's ago. Lots of clubs spend that kind of money

Haalands weekly wage of 850k has got to be close to the total wages for our entire starting 11 today, hasn't it?

Ridiculous

Obviously they have bought well and have a good coach - but even Eddie Howe was treading water with them until they spent money. Not many clubs have a net £250 million spend in 13 months.

Tough one that, but we always knew that was going to be the case

Thought we were really good until they scored, which was annoying. Though seen enough from Brighton and today to think we’ll be OK provided DCL is fine
That's my take on it. I thought we were the better side until the goal, just lacking that precision or luck in the final third to get the chances needed to score.

Gündogan's goal was a mixture of the sublime and luck, so I don't think there's much we could have done; the second goal, that was the sucker punch.

If we'd gone in at half-time 1-0 down, we could have stood a chance, but the second meant we were so deflated. Still, there were a fair few positives!

I thought McNeil and Garner were both real positives, with Doucouré and Dom also performing well.

After today, is Holgate now 100% out? Subbed just after half time and no intention in playing in the next match?

They looked like relegation certainties when Howe took over so of course it was difficult but he only spent about the same amount (and probably less) in the Jan window as Everton spent in the last transfer window and he shot them up the league. He has spent about 220m net over two seasons and has them in top 4. 200m over two season is not that much of a rarity for a PL team. In recent years both Everton and Villa have done it and neither had a sniff of top 4

Anyone else notice the second dcl went off we started playing the type of football he'd thrive off?

Or was it just more noticable how ineffective maupay was??

Seeing the ref acting like he’s mates with these ‘top’ players, Haaland complaining to him about Mina… every 50/50 decision goes their way. Shocking. Not impartial, not professional
