Oh dear god he's done a few turns in a testimonial and the lads a world beater

Its not just about a few turns in a testimonial. Its more that his testimonial performance basically backed up what was already said beforehand. Also in the testimonial apart from the 'few turns' was his situational awareness. I mentioned what was said beforehand...this is for instance one of many articles about him and his world cup performance...

If someone was to tell us that Muhamed Besic (Ferencvaros) would be Bosnia’s top player at the World Cup in Brazil, we would have dismissed it as a joke. After all, the 21-year-old was not even on Safet Susic’s radar as far as the national team was concerned. Nor was he a regular member of the U21 squad, exiled because of his behavior and confrontations with Vlado Jagodic.

And yet, forced into a second look, Besic’s performances in Hungary, as well as his talent-level, warranted a call-up to the national team. What’s more, Susic stated before the tournament that “Besic was the only player capable of shadowing Lionel Messi.” Many laughed at Susic’s statements and thought the player would eventually get cut in favor of a more established name in time for Brazil. Laughter turned into honest confusion when Susic handed a key midfield position to the young Berlin-born player at the pre-World Cup friendly tour in the U.S.

Besic went from a national team outcast, to a returning prodigal son. His performances against the Ivory Coast and Mexico only foreshadowed what was about to come at the World Cup. Nobody in their right mind could have guessed that this young player would outshine even Edin Dzeko and Miralem Pjanic at football’s biggest stage. And yet, this is exactly what Muhamed Besic did.

Against Argentina, Besic rendered Lionel Messi invisible for the majority of the match, apart from one moment of sheer brilliance that ended up making the difference at the end of the 90 minutes. Switching from an attacking 4-4-2 lineup to a more balanced 4-2-3-1 formation, Susic had found insurance for the back four, and his name was Besic. Excelling at the DM position, Besic not only excelled in the defensive roles that were given to him, but in his passing ability and transition into the final third. Besic was also a motor for Bosnia-Herzegovina, outrunning his teammates in total distance covered in all three matches.

Compared to players at his position at the tournament, Besic stacked up well against already well established and veteran stars in world football. Muhamed Besic had a similar pass completion rate as Italy’s Daniele De Rossi, Germany’s Philip Lahm, and Argentina’s Javier Mascherano. In long passes per game, Besic topped them all with an average of 12.3.

A tireless worker, Besic also outran the majority of his teammates in the three group stage matches, even being a key build up contributor in several of the goals. The world media has been waxing poetically about Muhamed Besic’s abilities, and we can’t disagree. Miralem Pjanic would probably have won the award on any other occasion but the sheer fact that Muhamed Besic has single handedly changed Bosnia tactically with his inclusion, has warranted a win.

Muhamed Besic is the future of Bosnian football, and our Man of the Tournament.
