Everton Youth Teams Thread

Not sure he's better than we have now as the club would have done more to keep him, so they must see the others as better prospects
He did exactly what Small did. They had no choice.

Our Academy keepers are poor but I think they know that and I expect they’ll do something about it very soon.

Small was offered the pro and turned it down Where's Dan Rose asked the club for a pro inclusive with the scholarship and the club refused so the agent moved him elsewhere so completely different to small

He turned down his offer of a contract at Everton and left because he wanted to, against Everton’s wishes.

It’s exactly what Small did.

anyone know what happended to Tyler Onyango ? he got injured in April now already out for 6 months.
thought he would be the one progressing to hte first team squad the quickest

Very serious injury from memory? And at an absolutely horrible time. As I think quite a few pegged him to be the closest to breaking through, and in a position where he could have jumped Gomes, Davies, Delph & Gbamin.

@Ring master what is your view on Unsworth?
Is he the right man for the job?
Like so many for me - no. but he does not have the guts to take a chance as ive said in the past on lower down league teams, but he seems like he is another one that no matter how bad he does that we may not get rid of with all the other Duty's added to his Titles the last year

This is the one glaring issue with Brands’ tenure I think. When we brought him in, he was supposedly a master of finding emerging talent and putting plans in place to develop it along with existing talent from the local area.

So far, he has allowed our academy set up to descend into an obsession of pursuing trophies that bear no meaning to the success of the first team and do not help our financial accounts either as we are not turning the trophies into big sale prices for our youngsters.

While Marcel has had his hands tied in some respects over contracts from Walsh, he has had plenty of time to create a solid foundation beneath the first team that makes it clear what players need to do to get a chance to break through.

I was reading about how the City youth teams adapt to regularly to the style and formation of play that Pep wants from the first team and that is the kind of cohesive thinking that we should have applied here and while we don’t have the same resources, you’d think that would just mean the success we get from it would be on a smaller scale I.e 1 or 2 players breaking into the first team instead of 3 or 4

My biggest criticism of Brands is he doesn't have all 3 teams playing the same system. Initially he was in a difficult position he had older players blocking routes because he wanted them in the shop window for sales and loans. This season he has no excuse although the u23s still has a couple too many players it's pretty much where it needs to be. I've criticised Unsworth on here but I'm now coming more round to the thinking that it's further up. If Brands told Unsworth to mirror the first team I'm sure he would. Also we are short in a couple of positions in the academy. It's accepted that very few will actually make it to the first team so in my opinion he should have brought in a specialist young LB to play u23s just so the side have proper balance. Anderson and Campbell have done a job but surely Campbell would be better off playing CB where his skill set is than playing out of position because we have no one else. Anderson is never going to make it here and like Broadhead should never have been offered a new contract to play LB. He also needs to be doing something to make us more attractive as we don't seem to be a good place to come any more.
