I'm not in a pro-Benitez lobby. Just highlighting that the issues we're suffering with now were already there last season. 3 wins in 12 vs 1 win in 10. Not a massive difference. Barring 4-5 players we have a very poor squad that have seen off 2-3 managers already.
It is very likely (indeed if you look at the odds on offer at the bookies it is odds on) that we will be 1 win in 12 in a week's time, that will be three times worse than our worst run of form last year. Will that be enough to concern you?

If Benitez can't improve the players performance then what business does he have calling himself a coach? For the record, the three players he brought in, Gray, Townsend and Rondon, have also declined in terms of performance over the past two months (well maybe not Rondon, but his level is so low it surely can't decline further). Does he bear no responsibility for that either.

The fact of the matter is that our performances are in decline when compared with the start of the season. Some of that is down to the absence of personnel but some of it lays at the feet of our manager and his stale tactics and bizarre starting line ups. We will play our biggest rivals in two days time with only DCL and Mina missing from the starting line up, this was also true the last time we played the RS. Do you anticipate victory on Wednesday? If victory does not come and the teamsheet is essentially the same as last time who will be culpable? It can't be the players as they will be the same players they were last year, unless of course they have declined under Benitez.
He is a coach however the basics can be practiced all you like but at some points the armbands come off for the players and they get thrown in the deep end to do something they're paid well for. He has to take responsibility for a tactical error from the side but passing poorly isnt all on him.

The performance levels have dropped in recent weeks for the new signings, however it was always unlikely they'd keep up the start they have had. Only very few players can do it at such a level all the time but the only way to get it back is play your way back into form.

Asides from the centre forward how would you have liked us to line up yesterday?

Rafael Benitez Everton

Everton manager Rafael Benitez has reportedly learnt just how long he has to save his job, as the club’s board set their sights on a potential replacement.
Benitez’s arrival on June 30 wasn’t exactly met with great pleasure from the Toffees faithful. The Spaniard is a Liverpool legend, having guided Everton’s rivals to the Champions League crown in 2005 and an FA Cup the following year.

Benitez also seemed to claim that Everton were a ‘small club’ during his time at Anfield, although he has since attempted to explain the jibe.
The Merseyside outfit started the campaign brightly, picking up 14 points from their first seven Premier League games. But Sunday’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Brentford took their winless run to seven games in the competition. They are now 14th in the table and looking over their shoulder at the likes of Southampton, Watford and Leeds.

Sport Witness, citing reports in the Spanish press, provide a worrying update on the 61-year-old’s future. They write that he has just one more game to save his position – Wednesday evening’s derby against high-flying rivals Liverpool.
Should Everton pick up a surprise win at Goodison Park, then it would re-install some faith among the club’s board of directors and fans. However, another defeat would likely see Benitez receive the sack.

International boss in line to take over

Everton officials have one name in mind as they prepare for a new reign. Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand is the ‘main candidate’ to replace Benitez.
He has plenty of admirers following his country’s impressive Euro 2020 campaign. They overcame Wales and the Czech Republic before losing to England in the semi-finals.

Hjulmand also gained plenty of respect for his handling of Christian Eriksen’s collapse. The attacking midfielder could re-join Ajax after getting an implantable cardioverter defibrillator fitted.
However, Everton may be left frustrated in their pursuit of Hjulmand. The 49-year-old has helped the Danes to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. As such, the Toffees would need to put an enticing offer on the table to prize him to the Premier League.

Benitez reacts to latest Everton defeat

Following the loss at the Brentford Community Stadium, Benitez told reporters: “We can understand the frustration of the fans but we are also frustrated.
“Today you cannot complain about the effort and intensity the players put in. They try until the end.
“We had a lot of crosses and shots, so you cannot complain about the effort. But you can be disappointed because obviously we do not want to lose.
“We didn’t deserve to lose but the reality is the team is giving everything on the pitch and you can see the togetherness of the players.”
See for all i didn't want Benitez, for all i still don't want him, i dont want yet another manager in either. We may as well call ourselves Watford if we go down that road (Sacking managers every 15 games or so). If Benitez gets the boot we must stick with the next one for at least a season. Klopp took ages to get the [Poor language removed] firing, Howard Kendall took ages to get us firing, Ferguson took ages to get Manu firing etc. This hire and fire spiral will see us doomed if we dont stop the cycle.

So we ignoring cup games now? Across the whole season he made 3 appearances less than mina. Your argument was why pay him over 100k to miss half the games. You are either wrong in that statement, or you believe it for mina too?
Ok so including the cup games mina was in the squad 10 times more than James last season. Its therefore up to the manager if he wants to play him if available.
James was an absolute mercenary only here for a payday given to him by Ancelotti whereas Mina moved here to play football.

King really has nothing to do with it.
Rondon wasnt the only choice in world football. What it shows is benitez is a creature of habit. He went back to his wet blanket. He's starting to show again his first train of thought is a negative approach.
Still bemused by yest. Not throwing on the two forwards on the bench to try and rescue the game.
But alas i think thats him all over now.
Stubborn and way past his sell by date. The spanish roy hodgson. Thats who we have brought in.
This exactly, it was a very poor decision to bring in Rondon, it became a bizarre decision when you considered he had been given 2 years contract with an option of a further year, but, it is the refusal to accept he was a mistake and playing him week after week that I can't accept.

Anybody can make a mistake in the transfer market, it happens, but, persistently playing him when it is obvious that he is finished just illustrates what a stubborn man Benitez is.

I'm already concerned lol
Good, at least we have that in common!

Whatever we think about the structural issues at the club, and God knows they are legion, appointing Benitez was a crazy decision. Whether you think it is reasonable or not, Benitez was never going to be given any slack by the Everton faithful. The first sign of trouble and this was bound to happen, the fact that he has a frosty personality and likes to deflect blame when things get difficult doesn't help but his connections to the RS was always going to be a stick to beat him with, that a large number of Evertonians (myself included) were going to find impossible to resist. @davek can kid himself on that the match going Evertonian is markedly different from the folks on here, but they're not, many of the people on here are the match going fans. If, and I genuinely hope it's an "if", the RS score first on Weds night, Goodison will turn. The players don't hep him, they will wilt when it happens, but the ire will be directed in one direction, and if that happens there is no way back.
