I just think people are underestimating how much the team you’re in matters. It’s very difficult to be a high level player on the ball when you don’t have a set up or teammates that allow for that. It’s very hard to control midfield playing for a manager who is setting the team up to not battle...
I love how over 7 seasons or whatever it is now he’s managed to be basically exactly average across any significant stretch. Any time he’s playing well he has some stinkers to make it clear he’s still just average, and the other way too where he usually responds to a bad stretch with a game...
He’s always been crap, having a few deflections and ricochets drop to your feet for tap ins doesn’t make you good especially when your role is (I guess) to play as a #10/second striker type. I’m not sure there is a better way to use the players we have but shoehorning him into that spot seems...
Like Onana you just aren’t going to see what he might be capable of or any development under this manager. I’ve actually been encouraged this year. We need real coaching.
