Sad news. I am surprised to read that he made his first appearance for us in 1969, as I have a schoolboy memory of seeing him outside the old shop on School Lane in Woolton. I was with a kopite classmate who threw an apple core and shouted abuse at Johnson, but he just laughed it off. I pointed out that Johnson was known to be a kopite, but my mate didn't care because he was playing for Everton.

Scored the first EFC goal I ever saw at Goodison v Panathinaikos,RIP.
I remember that goal so well.
Injury time at the Street End and he was determined to score, anybody or anything prepared to get in his way was going in the net with the ball.
The Greek fans in the Main Stand rained meat pies down on us in the paddock.
A goal never to be forgotten, even if we didn’t get through.
Thanks for that memory alone DJ.
RIP.

It was an Everton That moment when we sold him originally to Ipswich with Rod Bellfitt coming our way - Doh - he ended up over the park instead of performing for us, I saw him as a raw no 9 he had pace hit the woodwork a hell of a lot so promising - RIP
