Sandhills station

Anyhow has anyone done the walk from town, yet?

Hoping match day plans would be getting the train in/out lime street but combining it with food/drinks before or after a game... so likely walk instead of attempting to get through Sandhills.

Walked from Dale Street to BMD a few weekends ago

I have.

It’s around 35/40 minutes walk.

Hit Dale street for a few, the Denbigh and excelsior and big blue pubs, then walk up would be my suggestion.

Once you get out of town and walk up there’s not much around but there’s still a few decent options with a brewery and black stock market open.

I’ll be getting the train in from town and doing this myself most times.
 
Actually, I'd say expecting to be able to park on top off the stadium, gridlocking the whole area for car and shuttle bus alike, causing horrendous dispersal times would probably be far more deflating...... for everyone!

As I said, those Shuttles would also serve as direct service for fans local to Goodison and the East Lancs corridor who have no direct route to the Scotland Rd drop-off point, and/or would have to almost pass the stadium at a distance to access the Shuttles based in the city-centre..
I'm not criticising the inventiveness of fans here in thinking laterally in an effort to overcome a problem.

All of these suggestions of drop off points and shuttles and tweaking existing plans are going to be required.

My objection is to making a virtue out of a necessity.

This has been negligence on a grand scale and fans are having to endure it. And it's a kick in the teeth for a club that have done their part in attempting to regenerate deprived districts as a by-product of building their new home in that location.

I'm now believing there is no cost effective or easy fix which pleases everyone.

This is absolutely crap for fans going to games at the Euros or concerts though. I think neutrals like this, or away fans are going to absolutely appalled tbh.

Here we are 2 miles away from one of the busiest city centres in the country, in the third decade of the 21st century, and a brand new stadium feels like it's marooned in the middle of nowhere.

Even Sandhills station is now being seen as a hindrance rather than an asset.

I hope the national and international media get onto this - which Im sure they will in the coming months - and shine a big light onto this civic-led debacle.

We all agree the stadium is sensational and it truly is.
I like many others have been visiting it throughout the build... seeing it grow larger and more imposing on each visit.
I could never in those years get my head around driving/clattering up Boundary st that i was on one of the main roads to it🤣
I think if the stadium was not as eye catching and in such a picturesque position the critisism of ease to get there would have been enormous.

The club were and still are the owners of THEIR Transport Plan. It is what was used to gain THEIR planning permission. We've known the brunt of what it entailed for years: A marshalling area at Sandhills and shuttle buses to town and Bootle.... NO major new infrastructure. So there is little or no point in attacking the council for not providing what they have never promised and what the club never included in the transport plan drawn up by their experts. You're years too late and essentially screaming at the moon!

I voiced my concerns many times when the plans were first discussed in consultation and again when they were finally published. Apart from a few others who agreed (I don't know if you were one of them), the general concensus was that it was doom mongering, that the experts will have done their homework and the transport would be "alright on the night"....... and in anycase it was only a "short walk" to town etc.

I said from the start that I think there are a few potential solutions to help alleviate the obvious shortfalls in the Transport Plan.... and in the medium to long term, more hard-wired solutions to possibly eradicate them completely. ie: Another platform at Sandhills (for matchday specials and city centre shuttles); and/or another station at Vauxhall (justified because it would serve 10 streets/Liverpool waters too); Expansion of Merseyrail to include loop(s) through the eastern suburbs.... plus the Lime-line trackless tram serving the whole waterfront and flexible enough to ramp up capacity on matchdays.

I agree. I think the vast majority of us were mesmerised by the build. But people are employed to not be mesmerised in positions of power tasked with servicing this stadium, and they've let everyone down big time.
 
Honestly don’t think the issues are that hard to resolve. As I’ve said before a few match day special bus routes that serve the eastern corridor of the city - down the East Lancs and down Queens Drive for example.

Additional capacity on the trains and because there is no need for a soccer bus that goes from the ground to Sandhills anymore, reroute that to Kirkdale and alleviate some of pressure on the one station.

By introducing those bus routes and that additional soccer bus you’re practically mirroring the transport infrastructure that services Goodison and Anfield.

With regards to car parking, you’ll see that open closer to the time as most of the parking around goodison is private. It’s also a decent walk away from the ground so anything similar would be outside of the road closure zones.

The club understandably in planning would never have demanded too much by way of infrastructure input from the local state. That'd have frightened off the horses. But the local authorities job is to anticipate what a fully rolled out stadium scheme would look like and either reject it if it's going to cause the scale of disruptions we now see end up a reality, or to ok it with demands for the club to either financially invest in making the site accessible for 53,000 fans or to fund those improvements themselves. They were the choices they had and when they green-lighted this stadium they automatically became the organisations that took responsibility for it.

So when you talk about those who stated "it'll be alright on the night", right at the head of that cohort of people are those who run LCR and LCC, because that was obviously their attitude. They KNEW they wouldn't be financing infrastructural development for the site for a 2025 KO but they handed permission for this to go ahead anyway.

All roads lead back to the local state on this. I have no idea why you're willing to take their side and defend them on the mess we're now presented with.

Footy fans will cope with 25 minute walk into a city centre situation for an international tournament one off type occasion. Fans going regularly are more likely to be cheesed off with it IMO and are more likely to find it as a reason not to bother at all over time.

I'm not taking the council's side at all, I'm simply stating the facts as they happened, not speculating about "scaring horses" in negotiations. Ultimately, it was the club's choice to relocate to the site. The Council helped facilitate that via the site owner, Peel (which the club had failed to do previously) and even offered to underwrite a special funding vehicle when the club failed to secure any finances themselves.

Initially, the financial backdrop included a bid for the 2026 CWG..... which would've included significant state funding. When Durban pulled out of hosting the 2022 games. That new window became unattainable and we were beaten by Brum. Everything went on hold for a while, with another consultation period.... then the next thing we knew was it had shrunk to a 53k stadium (not 60k+).... and the planning application emerged with the transport plan, as it is. That's what the club signed up for. The council can readily cover themselves by saying that they're skint and/or cannot secure funding for low BCR infrastructure or for a privately-owned company and their fortnightly event venue.... just as the respective councils couldn't for Spurs and Arsenal. If the council has played hard ball and/or if the club has failed to push their side is irrelevant now. That is what they signed up to, and have claimed was sufficient provision in every document, meeting and announcement since..... and their fallback is get your walking shoes on. Shouting about it now is meaningless, your "scared horses" bolted years ago, and you said nothing!
