I’ve no idea. I doubt they need another CB they have signed at least two in the last 12 months? Plus they need a goal scorer more than anything. Which I know this is the JB thread but it wouldn’t surprise me to see them snap DCL on a free he pretty much guarantees ~10 goals in that side I reckon, zero cost and Sir Jim loves a low cost purchaseAt which point when they're selling their potential does JB go there ?
Ahh okThey offered £35m
Yep it's a statement of intent. We've had several opportunities, Rooney was one, Lukaku was another. We could have built teams around these players but we missed the opportunity. If we could get a good young midfielder and a good young forward we could get the spine of a team for years to come. Players like Branthwaite don't come along very often and we need to make the most of the opportunity.
Dibling too expensive, I think he'll stay at Southampton because nobody will pay anything like what they're asking. If we're stumping up big money for a young player it should be Liam Delap in my view. I don't think he's going to be a target for Champions League clubs and would be ideal for us given his hard work, all round play and goalscoring.I think this summer if we can add to the likes of Branthwaite and Armstrong with top young English talent then things can really change around quickly.
Tentative links to the likes of Rigg and Dibling give me a bit of hope that we could take that route.
We need a balance between that and also bringing in signings that make Branthwaite see there will be an immediate benefit to stay.

Walker-Peters on a free wouldn't be too bad, he's not young (28 by the start of next season) but he could go straight into the squad and mean O'Brien could play centre half or we could play 3 centre halves and play him at wing back and McNeill at left wing back.Agreed.
For me, Rigg, Delap and a high potential young English full back would be ideal.
I think we are in a good position to keep him myself. But he has to sign da ting. For the record, I don't see United buying Branners.
I doubt there will be much interest at the 80m we seek, so at this point I see him signing a new contract and hoping he breaks into the England squad for the WC.
We’re not really going to be able to address everything in one window so picking and choosing our moment is important. As pressing as the full back situation is, left back is much more important and KWP would be an immediate upgrade on our current RBs and injects more experience into the team to balance out youth. He can cover LB if needed and gives us maybe a window or two to scout long term option at RB and allow us to stagger spend to afford them. I’ve got no doubt that someone like KWP could come in and be a tidy player defensively and going forward on that flank.Walker-Peters on a free wouldn't be too bad, he's not young (28 by the start of next season) but he could go straight into the squad and mean O'Brien could play centre half or we could play 3 centre halves and play him at wing back and McNeill at left wing back.
