So if Lampard fails here will fans finally acknowledge that its the squad/recruitment thats the main issue and not the manager?
Well you've missed the point again. Of course recruitment and the squad are the main problem, but managers have still failed too. More than one thing can go wrong at the same time, and we are clear example of that. Almost everything has gone wrong at the same time which is why we are in such a bad position.

Martinez was sacked because of the worst home record on record and taking a 5th place team to 11th twice, despite unbelievable numbers from Lukaku.
Koeman was sacked for spending an absolute fortune and leaving us in the bottom 3
Allardyce was clearly hired as an interim - rightly or wrongly.
Silva was sacked because he left us in the bottom 3
Ancelotti left of his own free will to join Real Madrid
Benitez was sacked because of the worst run of form in our PL history with 6 points from 13 games.

If we leave out Allardyce because he was an interim (IMO) and Ancelotti because he was not sacked, then can we really argue any of the other 4 were good enough? I find it very hard to argue they did well, regardless of the recruitment. And these managers were involved in a lot of the recruitment too, so again take some responsibility. I think every one of these managers got at least a couple of players they wanted, so recruitment cannot be viewed as completely outside the managers' remit.

Koeman was good enough to get us 7th then we lost Lukaku and Walsh never replaced him / spent the money well enough.

Silva got us 8th - we then lost Gana and Zouma and Brands failed to replace either / didnt invest the money well enough.

The theme is obvious - recruitment has constantly let us down and we've lost good players and replaced them with average/poor ones.

Yes again I agree recruitment has been abysmal. But that does not managers did well. You need to look at the issues seperately. Recruitment can be woeful and a manager out of their depth.

Managers all got some players they wanted as well. That's why the squad is so poor and lacking in balance. Different players for different systems under different managers.

Hire an actual Technical Director and let them get to work free from interference.

I think if we have a fully fit squad our strengths lie in attack. We have Gray, Richarlison and DCL who can all score goals. We will have Patterson and Mykolenko who are attacking full backs. This will suit Lampard's way of playing.
