We are not trying to sell the player, but Chelsea are apparently trying to sign him.

We certainly won't get 70m butif they want a young, English, Premiership player with the window starting to close in then they have to Stump up a price that is over the odds.

Everton are tight enough in attacking players as it is, we can't afford to lose one of our best without plenty of time to replace him
This is not a deal for the last few days of the window.

70 million to get us round the table. Simple as that.

He is 21 and on the fringes of an England call up. He is a promising young player in the middle of his contract and if you want to sign him with only 2 weeks left of the transfer market you are going to have to pay a massively inflated price.

England call up mate, when you say fringes you must be meaning he is english so there is a chance, as on current form he is not close.

I like Gordon but I cant see how he gets in the England side as an attacking player.

Look at Arsenal with Saka and Smith-Rowe, hows he getting ahead of those two?

Beyond that of course Bowen,Sterling, Grealish, Mount...Gordons nowhere near them.

I'm not saying that to be mean but all of those 6 players are currently showing consistent end product in comparison.

Who Fofana? he was playing first team football in France at 17 and was straight into the Leicester team at 19, he is probably their best CB and for his age (21 now) one of the best around, he has everything in his locker.

But for that major injury he'd be seen as up there as one of the best young centre backs on the planet.

Ronaldo at that age always showed flickers of absolute brilliance and flair though. That’s the difference between a young ronaldo with 5 goals in his first season at united and a Gordon, with not too dissimilar return, who hasn’t shown any insight into what specialist attribute he brings in the attacking third which can be developed with time. He doesn’t create chances, he can’t take set pieces, doesn’t score goals - for me pace and chasing the ball do not win football matches.

He's shown that he's got the mindset to improve himself, effort and pace on the pitch and of course makes some very clever runs...

...but hes yet to show any end product. Even flashes of something where I'd raise my eyebrows and watch a replay.

Say we keep him and he kicks on. He would need to be as good as Richarlison for us to get fee better than this.

So much potential for that never to happen. The deal makes sense.

He could be very good but I don't see him reaching the level of a Lukaku or Stones.

To be honest, I wonder if MGW wont end up a far superior player than Gordon. He's shown a huge amount in the Championship. Yes theres a big gulf but his stats were eye opening.

What if his form doesn't dip and he becomes a player worth 100m.

The assessment Chelsea have obviously made is that this is a young lad going right to the top and they want to get in at their definition of basement price.

Gordon should now get a big pay rise, he has now become a valuable asset for the club.

Credit due to the academy.

Im confused by this...what has Gordon done to warrant a pay rise?

What makes Gordon a valuable asset?

Mystified honestly...because Chelsea are offering insane money for him doesnt make him high value to Everton on the pitch...nor does it make him a £45mil level player for Everton.

If Morgan Gibbs White or Eddie Nketiah were offered to Everton for £45/50mil would you be happy to bring either / both in?

As thats the level above anything Gordon has shown in terms of end product...

I am not an out and out football expert so I can't tell if this bid of 40 mill is a true valuation, should it be more or less. If we sell him are we kicking our future down the drain, should we nor be holding onto young players like Gordon.

But he could flop or become injury prone and we might only get 5m for him in 2 years time, but we don’t know either way, but forget what he will or will not become because £50 million doesn’t grow on trees and we need that sort of money now to seriously push on with out team rebuilding.
That is a risk with every player.
Each and every player could have a career ending injury in their next game.
Every player could have a total collapse in form.

You don't operate on the basis that they will.

You back your judgement as Chelsea seem to be doing

Is it just me or can anyone understand why on earth Chelsea want to sign him??
He is a good player but has a long way to go... Chelsea have got no less than 13 midfielders in their squad including Barkley, Hudson-Odoi, Gallagher, Mount, Sterling, Chukwuemeka & Loftus-Cheek who are all English. Why do they want him in the first place particularly as they don't seem against letting half of this list leave or go on loan. I'm baffled, it's not like we're in direct competition with Chelsea either is it. If he leaves he will be lucky to make the bench over the next 3 years. ?

One our "best" isn't a high bar to be fair and we've got plenty of time to replace him.

They'll have targets lined up. Stumbling blocks will be money and receipt of payments. Always is.

Once that's cleared, they'll sign.

We can bemoan that we should get the business done before the start of the season, but it just doesn't work out like that especially when clubs and managers are happy to have the window open into the season.

I was just thinking about who would be comparable to Gordon for purposes for gauging value. Mount, Foden, Saka are on another planet in value. Barnes and Eze are a little older. Hudson-Odoi before his injuries? Nketiah? Smith-Rowe might be decent comparison. I could see Gordon having a similar season to his last season. 10 goals, moments of brilliance but overall a little frustrating.

I can understand why we're valuing Gordon so highly because if he adds a few more goals every season, he'll be right in that conversation for an England place with Barnes, Bowen, etc. But also I wouldn't buy any of those players bar the first three for £50m, let alone someone with Gordon's resume. It's madness on Chelsea's part.
