So? What's your point?

They're not going to win it now, either.
How is their imperviousness changed or challenged if the best they've done is finish 2nd once? If anything, since participating in random tournaments, they've been more streaky than before domestically, leading to others winning it more often.

Also the idea for the tournament is decent - essentially the ECC from before Champions League times, but on a global scale, which sounds interesting honestly. A chance at a reward for being a champion, prove you're the best, literally as the ECC (which most people here remember with fondness, but the idea of it happening now is borderline evil) is great on paper.

The application however makes it feel like a stupid tournament which will be overlooked by most teams after one or two iterations - if we are champions I'd like us to not play our first team in this pointless mid-summer tournament just to risk injuries to our best players. No doubt that's the reason why the prize pool is hilariously big, as otherwise who'd want to watch mostly 2nd stringers participate in a tournament like this

The point I am making is that the prize money earned by these sides for taking part will distort domestic leagues. So the inequality chasm widens to levels beyond even that in the Premier League.

So even though River and Boca are makeweights in competitions like this, the vast riches promised by FIFA will go a lot farther in South America than they will in, say, a top European league. That means they can dominate the Copa Libertadores in ways they would not otherwise. Basically, this tournament is likely to distort domestic competition all because Infantino wants to wipe out UEFA.
