Things you’ve done that make you proud

I once stopped a woman jumping off the top of a car park. She had been drinking. Once I got her down she flung het arms around me and sobbed like a child. It only hit me weeks later that I had almost certainly saved her life.
That’s great mate, a few years ago I spoke to a person through a door for a few hours as they were threatening suicide… like you say, it’s only afterwards you realise what you’ve done.

Left school ( Anfield Comp) at 16 with no qualifications. ( all my own fault, the teachers, in hindsight) tried their best.

Various 'dead end' jobs for around 20 years.

Via my then union ( NUPE) went to the TUC Northern College in Barnsley.

Gained BA hons and then a Masters degree from Warwick University.

Recently retired from a 30 odd year career in social work.

Me and my mate a few years' back always did the lottery together. One week he forgot to give me his half of the money for the lottery ticket. I won that week, but still gave him his half of the winnings - £ 1.30. It's what Jebus would have done.

….i’m not the best at helping but I try.

Once after walking 20 yards past a busy junction I looked back to see a young woman with a guide dog trying to cross. I hurried back to the where she was and said I’d cross her over but she said not to bother because she wasn’t blind. Turns out she was training the guide dog.

After being to Aintree races and having a proper skinful I was walking through West Derby Village and saw an elderly lady struggling with a refuse bin on the sidewalk. I took it from her, took it through her gates and put it up the side of her house. It was then she told me she was actually putting it out.

Battered one of the school bullys , he was in the year above and a complete arsehole , he left me and others alone after that. I know violence isn’t something to brag about, it’s more about our year having a bit of peace especially the smaller kids.

Gave a fella who I know from the much younger days who is on his own via a neighbour clothes , food, winter coat and hats etc. he doesn’t know it was me that has given him the stuff.

When I was a kid there was this tramp who used to call every few months. I gave him a milk bottle of tea and some jam butties and he was always thrilled. Didn't exactly make me feel proud there was a small glow nonetheless. Mind you, he stank to high heaven so you had to keep your distance. Funnily enough, he was never drunk, just smiled a lot.
