A bit of an interesting career trajectory for Port Vale captain Ben Garrity

Playing for the likes of Formby & Lower Breck, even Warrington Town...up until he's about 22-23
Working as an engineer on Cherry Pickers before turning professional

Now played over 100 games for Port Vale with a lot of those being in League One, likely to gain promotion again this season.

The last player that I can think of who came into pro footy this late was Gary Taylor Fletcher, who was spotted by a scout from Northwich Victoria in the the early 2000`s , whilst playing in a charity match for a team in Widnes. ( my lad used to play for the kids team and everyone at the club new him )

He was a roofer at the time and turned semi pro, eventually climbing the leagues until he reached Leicester.

He did a podcast recently which pretty much told this story were he was basically playing way below his level, doing college football and basically enjoying a beer.
Ended up with a brilliant career

Elliot Nevitt coming in at 25 has forged a good career for himself also, its interesting hearing him talking about his first year at Tranmere and the difficulty he had was actually the conditioning and transition from training a about 3/4 hours a week and a game to training every day. He said he was being told to rest up and in his head he felt like he wasn't giving them his moneys work as he was used to working all day then training. He said after about a year his body fat dropped massively and turned into alot of muscle and that kicked him on.

Could be a similar story for someone like Sol Solomon, going from semi pro to full time can be a bit of an eye opener and it could take him 18 months or so to really kick on (who incidentally i need to take off my list, as he was actually born in Jersey, which i didn't know)

Met Gary a few times over the years, top lad and he could deffo do after dinner stuff, as he’s just naturally funny and a massive piss taker !

Huyton probably has to be high up the list in terms of top level footballers

Peter Reid
Tony Hibbert
Steven Gerrard
Joey Barton
Anthony Gerrard
David Nugent
Clint Hill
Callum McManaman
Absolutely loads of footy players came form and continue to come from Huyton.

It's like a production line.

Loads of estates with nothing to do but play footy.

I read this one a while back...

...although stretching Huyton a bit to get the Canny Farm horse starver Mickey Quinn in there.
